The extremely varied and useful papers combine broad discussions with specific archaeological case studies and are divided into three sections: Fieldwork organisation, site formation and site evaluation; Recording procedures; Post-excavation analysis and communicating results. Philosophy is a step in a peculiar direction for anyone who comes to the conclusion that justice is unlikely to be obtained in any matter in which the government has an interest, and this book starts with stories that make such an outlook something like an obsession. Interestingly, although her treatment focuses on Choctaw resurgence since the near demise of the nation in 1970, early on Lambert radically expands the historical scope of her investigation in order to interpret the significance of the most recent period. Her life hangs in the balance as both she and the Scorpion search for John and the Divinity file. The vocabulary and grammar is uncomplicated (at times a bit strange due to it being translated), but for me that didn't detract from the story line. The style, though in first-person, is somewhere between Hardy Boys and Tony Hillerman, closer to the latter.
